I recommend watching this if you haven’t already especially if you are confused about what assault is or what consent is. It was very refreshing that our school is at least aware of this problem and it doing its best to not become part of the problem. Honestly so was I, the first few questions asked anonymously by students were straightforward about policy and awareness and the panelists from U of M did a great job at answering with specific examples of how our school has at least addressed these issues. Kirby Dick said it was the first time a university had someone from legal counsel on a panel with him and he was impressed. So the panel consisted of the Director, a member from the University’s legal counsel and a member from the office of student conduct.

But that is some really deep stuff and I will definitely talk about this topic more in the future.Īfter the movie I felt like I wanted to do something to help or at least hear our school get scrutinized about its sexual assault policies in the panel discussion.
The Hunting Ground takes on this issue with a piercing, monumental expos of rape culture on campuses. One in five women in college are sexually assaulted, yet only a fraction of these crimes are reported, and even fewer result in punishment for the perpetrators. They stories were tough to hear sometimes and even made me question if I’ve been assaulted and maybe didn’t even know it. The Hunting Ground Documentary Peace is Loud. The lights went dark and for the next hour and forty-five minutes I was mesmerized by statistics and stories of males and females being asked “what would you have done differently that night?” or “were you drunk?” Of course I cried, but I can relate to feeling helpless and I think thats what resonated the most with me. The most exciting thing was there would a panel discussion with the director of the film Kirby Dick after each screening. showings and it was surprisingly full more than half of the Rose Theater on campus was filled. There were two screenings and I went to the 1 p.m. 7th and don't miss the screening of "The Hunting Grounds" on Tues. Pledge to take a stand on Wednesday, Oct.
